Thank You Marianne for Your Leadership in 'Things That Matter.' It is shocking to see you marginalized in media today as bad if not worse than your last foray in Presidential politics. The article in Politico was at first shocking but upon reflection is 'business as usual' in the political/corporate world. The misogyny is, of course, apparent but the ad hominem attack is especially galling while ignoring the substance of your campaign of truth to power. I so appreciate your fortitude and amazing ability to persevere against the odds with 'no order of magnitude when it comes to miracles.' Jimmy Carter was similarly principled and it is nice to see some acknowledgement as he nears the end of his life. He and You are the only truly qualified candidates in the presidential race in my lifetime. I 'am assuming the wish fulfilled' in your successful Presidential Win.

Looking forward to your interview on Sunday. Thank You for Everything...

"It is shocking to see you marginalized in media today as bad if not worse than your last foray in Presidential politics." - this is not shocking to me because Marianne is more of a threat this time than she was last time. She has had a year to wake more people up to what's happening in our country that WE have the power to stop, and that is a scary proposition for those who are in power positions and destroying our land and air for money.

Thank you. I hope you and your friends will donate to the campaign so we can keep going. Efforts to block us, invisibilize us, will only be successful if we can no longer afford to continue to campaign. I"m in as long as you're in!

Marianne: I trust your integrity implicitly and re: the recent attempt to take you down and slander your reputation, I would heartily suggest you assertedly & emphatically let it be known that it is a vicious hit job on you with the intention to dent your credibility. I appreciate your contrite response to the salivating journos but you gotta lay it down with more trust and assurance with little room for doubt. 🕊️

Marianne I too am Canadian and recently had the pleasure of seeing you in our nations capital Ottawa. I hope and pray that my American neighbors can hear the "common sense" that you so succinctly speak. I have been following you for over 10 years and just this morning after listening to your Morning meditation I looked at my bookcase and picked up the Divine Law of Compensation, this so strongly speaks of our need for greed as humans as we strive for more materialism. I love how you tell us not to loose hope that each of us can become agents of change simply by loving more, accepting more and not allowing that little voice in our head (the ego) to allow fear to creep in. I have decided a year ago to begin a series of public forums called The Living Well Living Green Shows, the first of which will be in Ottawa April 22nd 23rd, my goal is to instill hope in to our Canadian population to do their part toward Climate restoration. Marianne you are a gift to us all not just the American people. I will be chatting and directing my fellow Canadian citizens to listen to the amazing platform you are putting forth. You remain an inspiration to me on a daily basis, I pray to God and the Universe that We All Wake up to Love ( and common sense) With you 100% Marianne another Canadian in your Cheering section. Just to give more clarity to the situation in Alaska - those in power are destroying that state and have done it by making the people dependent on the handouts that come from the oil industry by way of Dividend Checks. People can't really afford to vote against this expansion because they have been bought and paid for through yearly Dividend checks that are thousands of dollars per person. This is just a different form of welfare that keeps people in line and mute.

Just maybe the indigenous tribes can help in some meaningful way since they understand the profound need to have a coherent natural environment that preserves all sentient life and our ecosystems. I look forward to Marianne's Sunday substack interview on this topic. Let's not give up but be upstanders!

Indigenous tribes in Alaska have about as much power as the Indigenous tribes have in the lower 48 - which is none.

Expand full comment

Well many U.S. citizens, it seems these days, have weakened and denied their own power--that can change. Yet, I think Indigenous tribes still have a great voice of wisdom that they can use. Have you ever read "Neither Wolf Nor Dog" by Kent Nerburn? It's a tearful journey of an elder Lakota and it's a masterpiece on how our First Nation's people can truly help the rest of us if we but listen to their stories.

You are so right Patti: I have worked on Alaska's North Slope, and can attest to the corruption created by the fossil fuel industry there--from disrupting the annual migration routes of the caribou herds to corrupting the Alaska Native Brotherhood (yes...brotherhood once existed among Native American Alaskans). Today, flush with oil profits, we see Inuit (ancient keepers of the dream-time stories and masks) running their own into the ground with their snowmobiles--drunk with the white-man's-spirit-in-a-bottle--and flush with greenbacks earned on the oilfields. Many want to return to subsistence hunting and fishing, but have been as seduced by twisted narratives of the American Dream as I once was.

In between stints in the oilfields, I worked as a research analyst for the State of Alaska House of Representatives. At the time, Permanent Fund dividend checks were re-calculated annually and based on the price-per-barrel tax that fossil fuel operators in Alaska pay for every barrel of oil that comes out of the ground. At the time, Alaskans were led to believe that this money would be held for citizens of the state in a reserve, a trust fund of sorts, for the day when the oil would "run out." It appears from Marianne's post that the Willow Project, (which I believe, without reading much more) will open up the last unsullied expanse of land in Alaska -- the National Arctic Wildlife Refuge. After all no one is "living there" aside from endangered species and need we ask how they became endangered-- a few thousand Arctic Caribou, a smaller number of rare Arctic Fox. Why not open it up for drilling permits...a signal perhaps, that the 'cursed black snake' (First Nation's name for oil pipelines) has finally retreated under the ground.

IF THERE EVER WAS A TIME FOR CONSUMERS TO BOYCOTT GASOLINE--IT'S NOW.

IF CONSUMERS STOP LINING UP AT THE PUMPS, THERE WON'T BE ANY MARKET FOR FOSSIL FUEL PRODUCTS--NO MARKET COULD MEAN NO NEW DRILLING PERMITS. AND

WOULD GIVE A MUCH NEEDED BOOST TO ALL RAPID TRANSIT SYSTEMS...

Thank you, Marcia, for sharing the real truth for those who don't know. When I first got to Alaska I bought a t-shirt that said, "Alaska is What America Was". Now the Last Frontier is being destroyed just like the rest of America has been destroyed, by greed and power. All the people who line their pockets with the money out of those oil fields don't even pay state taxes so Alaska isn't even paid for the destruction of their state.

Expand full comment

Patti: This is somewhat off-topic, as t-shirt discussions always are, but your post made me think of my own "first Alaska t-shirt purchase". My t-shirt was equally cheeky, and proclaimed: ALASKA--WHERE MEN ARE MEN AND WOMEN WIN THE IDITAROD. Is there something about Alaska that draws rowdy women, like you and I, to the state???

Expand full comment

I think it has something to do with being the last frontier where people have to be tough if they are going to make it and especially women. Have you ever seen the show Alaskan Daily about an Anchorage paper trying to tell the truth about the corruption taking over the state? It's really good and is showing how many thousands of Alaskan women have disappeared across the state without much concern. For another answer to your question - some states give a one-way ticket to Alaska to repeat prostitutes, instead of going to jail.

Thank you for the guts to take on not just ongoing governmental corruption, fat rich politicians, status quo, unprecedented and heartless corporate greed, and a megalithic health care system, but also the impending onslaught of vile-mouthed critics who really don’t give a damn about our planet, your feelings, and our collective financial, health and food manipulations. Please hang in there Marianne because at the end of the day please know you are loved and respected for what you are doing for America, and how we will eventually be viewed on the world stage.

The great disruption to save democracy and Earth resides with the people--and Marianne's inspiration keeps me going. Also, I am always impressed when people from a great democratic country, like France, march mightily to disrupt a system when their input was totally ignored, like with their pensions, and they can run the President out-of-town easily within the French Parliament. The U.S. can learn a lesson or more from our Euro allies! And Marianne is wonderful to point out the many ways those nations have progressed beyond our own--sadly. But this can change and it's up to us to become the ancestors we hope the young can be proud to recall!

Marianne has little chance of being taken 'seriously' by corporate media unless and until we rise up. It will take people in the streets, marches, protests, even possibly illegal disruptions of the status quo. With the weather breaking and our worn heads and hearts ready for another round of awakening, we might just change the bullshit paradigm we've all grown up under. Peace, love, courage and getting up off the couch are the requirements...
