MW is misreading the entire geopolitical context. The US/NATO provoked this war, and can end this war through negotiation. Russia will not give up the Donbass and Crimea. Nor should they. Zelensky could have countered the neo-Nazi pressure to not negotiate a resolution, but he required US backing, which was not provided. The US is responsible for what ensued. This is a conflict that was wholly preventable if only the US could abdicate the lust for empire.
Disappointing. We are the only power that could stop this -- either thru force or negotiation. And we're not doing it. Why? This slow play is more profitable. If one believes it's because our leaders are so wise and are playing 4-D chess...that our efforts will not push Putin into a nuclear response because we know just what we're doing...all I can say is look how well our military gamemenship has turned out over the past 70 years....so, so sad.
The plain fact is that the US provoked Putin for two decades by expanding NATO towards Russia, with the determination to make Ukraine a heavily armed hostile power on the Russian border as the last straw. Although not widely reported in the US press, prior to the incursion the Russians proposed a treaty that would have diffused the situation. The proposal was ignored. Putin demonstrated how seriously he took the threat of having native on his border by sending troops into Ukraine.
Thus, if we were to ask. “Who initiated the aggression first?” it is the US. If we were to ask, “Why has the small cadre of leaders in the US who have driven NATO policy been aggressively hostile towards Russia for so many years?” I’m sure I do not know. At one point Putin suggested that Russia should join NATO.
Both sides are intransigent. A likely outcome, I think, is nuclear war.
But since Russia is obviously the active aggressor, then obviously we should not let them get away with it even if the outcome is nuclear annihilation of San Francisco, New York, London, Pine Gap (the US military intelligence base here in Australia), and Sydney. Better that than to admit we were wrong.
You miss (or at least ignore) the fact that the US actively provoked the war in Ukraine by causing the Russians to believe that the US intended to facilitate the admission of Ukraine into NATO, which then would have allowed the building of US bases and other military facilities in Ukraine, close to the Russian border. Had this not occurred, it is very doubtful that the Russian invasion of Ukraine would have happened and there would be no war.
I realize that what I have said is consistent with a recent Russian talking point, but that does not make it false or incorrect. The US economy and in particular the US military-industrial complex lives and thrives on war, and would die without it.
Incorrect. US was plotting to dismantle Russia since the fall of Berlin wall. The coup in 2014 was orchestrated by US (check on YT Victoria Newland choosing the new Ukrainian government). Since then US and NATO were training Ukrainians for the combat with Russia, while importing weapons and building bio-labs. To say that Russia was unprovoked is either a deliberate omission or a total lack of understanding what has been happening. Very disappointing that Marianne Williamson is unable or unwilling to see the truth. Never thought I would unsubscribe from MW, but there you go.
I am deeply sad that you are communicating this way. Either you deny the US history in Ukraine, the utter disregard for humanity of the regime of Zelensky, the lies and propaganda of the US media, you deny the pattern on US colonialism or you are brainwashed and do not even realize it? You are such a brilliant Light in the world. It is perplexing to find you saying these kind of these that seem to legitimize this was and make Putin the enemy.
I was ready to be all in for you, Marianne, but this warmongering is putting a considerable damper on my enthusiasm. I would have expected you to be a strong voice calling for a negotiated settlement, the only way out of any war. Instead, you encourage further fighting, which leads to more people dying. It’s completely antithetical to everything else you teach. A bad, bad take.
We Baha'is believe that if one nation invades another country, for the purpose of erasing that country's existence, or for turning that country into a subservient fiefdom-all other nations should rise up and stop that tyranny. We also believe in a global council to establish a lasting world peace, which leaves no one out.
I still support you, but I do not support our presence or our money going to Ukraine (or Israel). You say the war $$s wouldn’t go to our domestic programs. Correct, the appropriations are specific, and that is no justification for continuing financial support for Zelenskyy. We are wrong to be this involved, and you’re wrong to support it.
I completely agree with Marianne's post. You may not wish to hear this however, I think Biden is doing a terrific job in managing US support. I have read three biographies of Putin trying to understand his motivation - by Catherine Belton, ex of the Financial Times, by Fiona Hill, Trump's one-time adviser and by Zygar, a Russian TV journalist. I get all the stuff about the missteps of the USA. Bush Junior and Obama were the worst offenders. Zygar is particularly good on this. I have also read and viewed many interviews with people like Ritter, Meirsheimer and Chomsky. Putin has a right to feel aggrieved but that does not excuse the invasion and attempted destruction of an innocent country which was freely given its independence by Russia itself.
So you want to go to war against Russia Marianne? Really? The only thing that Russia asked is to not approve Ukraine joining NATO. They don't want to have missiles, bio warfare labs in their backyard. Simple. Remember when late USSR put missiles in Cuba. We didn't like that. So the same here. Putin wants to negociate since the beginning but it was denied by the United States. Did you hear Biden talking about Peace? Please tell me when? North Stream Pipeline was destroy by USA and Finland. This was a direct attack against Germany, our ally and Europe.
Biden announces $500M in new military aid to Ukraine. ¨The U.S. has committed at least $25 billion in security assistance to Ukraine since the start of the Biden administration, according to the Pentagon.¨
Perfectly said. Thank you, Marianne.

Thank you for your poignant thoughts on Ukraine and military politics, peace and war.
Tough waters to maneuver for sure. You got me thinking. It seems in coming month it’s coming to a head, let’s hope it comes to a heart as well!

I trust your words and I pray it is the will of God for you to run and win the race for President of 🇺🇸 America . Amen

Suprised you didnt even mention the grave dangers of nuclear war, if this escalates!
