Every time I get a survey for Biden, I respond asking how we can get a Democratic debate so we can hear what the candidates have to say so WE can decide for ourselves who we want to vote for, and not have it be done for us - but I never get a response. Does anyone here know how to go about insisting for a debate for the Democrat party? I don't like the assumption that I'm supporting Biden because I'm not.
Describing "a major political party [as] a huge corporation" is actually pretty apt. It's unclear why it took Ms Williamson so long to arrive at this conclusion, given the fact that the DNC openly referred to itself as a private entity that was under no obligation to follow the democratic process while choosing their candidates. Corporations are rarely run as democracies. So even if the public happens to be thrown a bone in the form of a debate of sorts, it'll be nothing but circus. The sad truth is, anyone running in the Democratic primary simply plays a part in the show. It'd take a complete overhaul of the system to really change things...
What you say is sad but has a lot of credibility to it. Too bad our country didn't listen to many of the early founders who warned about political parties! Between "Citizens United" and national political committees it's tough to evolve our systems.
Regading the current state of affairs... The main factor here is neither "Citizens United" nor national committees. It's the persistent refusal of people to see things as they are. It'd be possible for We the People to get the country back in twelve months. But the only way to get it done is by embracing the reality of the moment and choosing to act accordingly. You will never EVER get there by playing games and propping up sham campaigns...
It's not so much according to my theory as to common sense and historical practice. There's one single note on my page. It has a telling title "A Case for the Labor Movement". It outlines the context of the present situation as well as what seems to be the only winning strategy available in these circumstances...
To those who are afraid of taxing the wealthy but claim that we need to balance the budget, I would suggest: Look at what every category of government spending and every level of income taxing was when we last had a balanced budget? (sometime in the 1990's) Then propose that we adjust EVERY category by the same proportion of the difference between then and now. I don't know what those numbers are; but I'll bet that we would be raising taxes on the wealthy and spending more on government programs to benefit society as a whole.
I truly love your spirit Marianne, your energy seems boundless. Stay the course and stay the fight, we are behind you 100%. I just hope and pray that the Democrats will have a primary, if not there is always a role call at the convention. Wilber Jeffcoat
