Succinct and straight to the core of it. There is a big difference between survival and taking over, I'm not sure those outside of the religion truly get this. My grandparents, post war immigrants to Australia, worked so hard to create a home and livelihood and encouraged the next generations to do the same...always for security, never for domination.
Decades ago, when it was the fashion for gentiles to hate Jews, as the only Jewish child in my school system from kindergarten on I got left with a reaction to people talking quietly among themselves that hooks me back into when they would have been gossiping about me. Now, although we have mopping up to do of hatred still spewed by the down and outers who need something to blame, let's hear it for how the oppression we suffered help drive us to being such valuable contributors to the world and to my not having to hide my pride about that!
Witnessing the growing (but never absent) global disdain for the Jewish people, and being the daughter of Holocaust survivors whose parents, siblings and their children were murdered in the Shoah, my own fears which I learned while growing up around other refugees, are on the surface more than ever. Being an immigrant to this country, my respect for the people who seek peace and freedom in this great nation grow each day. I am comforted by your prayers, meditation and access to ACIM, thank you Marianne.
And those claiming to be Christian seem to conveniently forget that Jesus was a Jew practicing and teaching Judaism. In today's world, he might have been considered a Reform or Reconstructionist Jew, but he was living that faith, trying to get it more aligned to the spirit of loving one another than in following every single one of the over 600 rules or guidelines as some choose to see them, and guidelines is likely how Jesus saw them. Unfortunately they had become disconnected from the spirit and even turned into the opposite, such as stoning women who committed adultery. That's why Jesus said, let he who is without sin throw the first stone, because he knew nobody had that right, even though that's what the written rule said. We have to remember that people wrote those down, some were channeled, others carried pieces of the imperfect channel with them and reflected their beliefs. No one is infallible, especially not the pope because it has only ever been fallible people claiming that he is.
A Course in Miracles teaches that 'only love is real', 'the past doesn't exist,' 'you could see peace instead of this,' and 'truth doesn't need a defense.' "Nothing outside yourself can save you; nothing outside yourself can give you peace. But it also means that nothing outside yourself can hurt you, or disturb your peace or upset you in anyway. Today's idea places you in charge of the universe, where you belong because of what you are." (ACIM W70) Transcend! 😊
I understand the need to verbally defend, however, with all the hatred being spewed in the US now, my inclination is to sit quietly and observe, giving these haters the open space to hear themselves.
"How can I be the victim of a world that can be completely undone if I so choose? My chains are loosened. I can drop them off merely by desiring to do so. The prison door is open. I can leave simply by walking out. Nothing holds me in this world. Only my wish to stay keeps me a prisoner. I would give up my insane wishes and walk into the sunlight at last.” Miracles Lesson 57

This would be a very good time to re-examine the origins of the "semite / anti-semite" terminology. It is so problematic on so many levels. It has it's root in the notion that all the races of humankind are descendents of the 3 sons of Noah (Ham, Japheth and Shem...which became the "Sem" in Semite). That in itself is questionable, both historically and anthropologically. But the real problem is in how the term "semite" came to be a polite word for "Jew". We are never referred to as "Semites" in the Torah, and to my knowledge we never self-identified as "Semites" up until the 19th Century. The term was applied to us Jews by French and German proto-Nazi race theorists who were debating about which races had the true right to a place a the table of European-ness (aka "racial superiority" according to said racial theorists). They had questions about the Semitic race (aka the Jews living in Europe) who could sorta pass for European, but not quite. Though there was debate, the consensus among the race theorists was that these "Semites" were not and never could be true Europeans. History tells us where that line of logic led. In our current time and place, we do not need fancy words like "anti-semitism". Just call it Jew Hate. Or, if that feels too ugly to say in polite company....how about Judeophobia?
