I think that's a waste of her precious life at this juncture. Her voice would be buried there too. We must find another avenue to free ourselves from the corporate rule that has been embedded into our governance. Not enough people are disenchanted with our systems yet since they don't take the time to understand what's happening because they are caught in their own grips of despair for numerous reasons.

The suspension of the campaign is not a success. Nor is it a failure. It's irrelevant. It'd be impossible to win a rigged game. And it's definitely impossible to win a non-existent one. So if someone is serious about their attempts to usher in change, they are going to have to create their own game first. And the first question they should ask themselves - what is the main thing that made the introduction of the New Deal possible...or inevitable?
Zoetroper, I have been pondering, as all of us who care often do, that the only way for policies, like Marianne proposes to see the light of day is a major 'catalyst' that prompts 'the people' to want more social safety nets to secure their survival. What prompted the New Deal, of course, was a struggling time in America with the Great Depression brought on, in part, by the collapse of our manipulated markets and banking systems. Plus, we had FDR--a national leader who came from privilege but gained moral compassion through his own struggles. On many days, we are on the verge of a similar economic collapse but its implications gets buried by MSM distractions; Taylor Swift, Speaker Johnson, even Navalny . So it seems the difference between now and the 1920s/1930s is the oligarchy takeover of MSM and all institutions. And too many folks rely upon social media for their information that doesn't adhere to the original principles of journalism--a 'free press' whereby a fair view of reality exists and not just tied to corporate interests but to the people as a whole. Thus, we are no longer in charge to be able to easily make educated decisions as necessary to sustain democracy. So I am not certain even if painful economic surface we can save this nation from rule by oligarchy or fascism. I envision the only catalyst that probably can alter our situation as well as the world will be the climate emergency--not sufficiently addressed. This goes beyond concerns of the wealth gap or whether or not people are getting livable wages, etc. It seems Nature will be the great interventionist; otherwise, it's a wash and repeat cycle. You are right, in a way. People ARE constantly "distracted". But only because they CHOOSE to be. It's always a matter of choice. Opting for Taylor Swift over Gaza is a decision. And actually a very deliberate one at that. Look at the Comment Section of this Substack, for example. All these people who were parading their spirituality for months here and probably for years and decades outside and who, at the same time, seem to have no qualms about supporting the Democratic Party or Biden even after 12 000 dead kids. Do you think they are somehow manipulated into such a stance against their will? They don't know what they are doing? Are you going to describe them as zombies brainwashed by entertainment blended with propaganda? Because they'd disagree. And that would be for a good reason. The reason being they know what they are doing. They simply make their choices...

But what made this introduction possible? I would agree that the Oligarchy has a more comprehensive control over all the institutions now if compared to the 20-30s. But the situation wasn't much better at the time. And it was incomparably worse as far as access to information goes (I'm not a dyed-in-the-wool fan of social media, but...where are we having this discussion?) The Elites of that period already controlled pretty much everything. And those Robber Barons were no less rapacious than modern ones. So why had they conceded? Or rather... why did they have to concede?
I didn't mean that they had ceded even an ounce of their overall power or control or privilege. Of course, not. But they had to concede this specific thing - the New Deal. They had to...deal with it :) Why?

I just think Trump supporters have been innoculated against economic policies that would help them because they associate them with fear-based vilification of "others" like immigrants, the LGBTQ community, choice advocates, people concerned about the environment, and people crying out against gun violence. It's all they care about. Those issues conveniently short-circuit policy discussions because their imagined foes are painted as the reason for all of their woes, including economic ones. I think this reframing of the problem makes it very hard to convince them that government programs (which they've also been conditioned to fear) will help them as long as those evil "others" roam free. It's right out of Hitler's playbook, and Trump's team has known that all along.

Obama had total opposition from the Republican Congress. He was a bright light.
