This morning I was interviewed by Neil Cavuto about the state of the Democratic Party, once again calling for the President to step down from his position as the presumptive nominee.

There will then be one person left in the race …and that’s me!

The field will open up immediately, of course, with several traditional politicians just waiting in the wings. But it isn’t the party elite who should now “decide” who the new nominee should be. The only just and democratic way to handle this is to begin a new, mini primary leading to an open convention.

A new nominating process would not be “chaotic”, as some have said they fear. It will be exciting, actually..it will engage people. And more than anything else, it will be the way a democracy is supposed to work.

My having won 500,000 votes in the primaries leading to this, our agenda needs to be heard going forward. It's going to take more than a status quo politician to defeat Donald Trump. It has to be someone offering as much inspiration and hope as Trump is offering a hotbed of grievances.

I’m asking you to join with me in a deep commitment the creation of a campaign that I believe is the ONLY one that can beat Donald Trump in November. Mine is the only campaign that stands for unequivocal advocacy for the working people of the United States.

Mine is not a campaign that goes on endlessly about Donald Trump. It’s a campaign going on endlessly about the needs of the American people and how we need to meet those needs. That’s why I should be the nominee, and it’s why I’m the one who will win.

Our moment has arrived.
