Absolutely no one has, is, will speak so plainly about the cultural deterioration and injury that has befallen America as you do, Marianne. I have friends who think you should not be taken seriously as a candidate, and their stated reasons are never backed up by logic or knowledge. That is something I will work hard to change. One “trick” I am pulling on them is to copy the text of your blog and send it to them with no identification and simply ask them if they agree your comments make sense and should be how a viable candidate should profile our present national homeostasis. They always agree with every sentence, no exception. When I tell them you are the author, their jaw drops. Then I challenge them to find statements and positions from other possible candidates that reach as deeply and broadly as yours to justify their possible support. I know I will not see any reply to that challenge.
I agree 100% with all you’ve so eloquently summed up in your “Notes from the Road.” I believe most Americans are willing and ready to see the truths we need to face to turn things around. Along with you, I believe the American people are not the problem: most Americans WANT gun control (why was the assault weapon ban allowed to expire?), most Americans WANT universal healthcare, WANT economic and racial justice, etc., etc. etc. and so much more. But how is it that our elected officials in Washington do not enact laws that reflect what the majority of Americans want, need and deserve? Yes, we all have to be engaged citizens, speak truth to power, vote, protest, etc. But who is listening? Who really cares? So, what do those of us - the majority - who choose the path towards sustainability and repair DO? It feels like a David vs. Goliath battle.

I'm ready to shine some light of truth on the Department of Human Services. It is not a model that assists people to move from survive to thrive but is a model that creates dependency, keeping people in survival mode because it is driven by numbers and is funded based on the numbers. It was created that way back during the Great Depression when people were in bread lines that had never been seen in our country before, and good hearted people said, "We have to do something" - and they developed programs and services to assist people during hard times. They went to the funding agencies for the money to provide these programs and services and were told there needs to be proof of need - thus began the documentation based on numbers. That model has not changed, 93 years later. Would a 1930's model car run on our highways and freeways today? The answer is no, it would not, and yet we have let a 1930's model operating system pull people into it for 93 years without creating any exit plan for people to move out of the system into self sufficiency. We cannot keep doing this because the system is already overloaded and overwhelmed and keeps producing more dependency that keeps people in survival mode. If you want to see an example of how this system operates, check out a documentary on Netflix called, "The Trial of Gabriel Fernandez". This is the norm more than it is an exception. We need an independent evaluation process of our government agencies by people who have no investment in the outcome if we are ever going to have a government FOR the people.

I am irish and so maybe I don't get it..but to me the average American is ignorant..vulgar I have no idea about that. There is no spirit to question. The rules are followed. There's no looking to other countries for comparison. How do Americans not support health care for all? That's just one thing I simply can't understand. At some point Marianne needs to get explicit that Biden and his ilk are the real problem. For 50 years he's been entrenched in DC as a neoconservative on foreign wars and a neoliberal on economics. If she's not going to challenge the Democratic establishment then why bother running at all?
Thank you, Marianne! Will you please also address America’s role in the world? We should be working for peace in Ukraine and Russia, not helping to escalate the war through providing massive weapons. We should be finding a way to live with China instead of picking a fight with them. There are lots of people in the world, most of them are not Americans. We need to learn to live with everyone on this planet, and not insist that we be the big dog all the time.
