In Judaism there is the concept of Tikun Olam. Its that we have a responsibility to heal the whole world, not just ourselves. One of the proponents of this was Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel. He was on the march in Selma, Alabama with Martin Luther King. As long as any community is suffering we have the responsibility to heal it.
Is this actually a scientific breakthrough? Scientists all over the world have developed free energy devices over the last 50-100 years that extract unlimited free & clean energy from the quantum field, and their research is continuously confiscated by our governments, their labs are attacked and destroyed, or they are outright killed. I highly recommend watching the Thrive 1 & 2 documentaries to see examples of this. I appreciate the spiritual parallels you're making, but one of the first applications for this technology mentioned by secretary of energy Jennifer Granholm is for military/defence. I think that's pretty telling about why this announcement is exciting to Washington.
All are One and One is All...the Whole being equal to yet greater than the sum of its parts. Such is the basis of metaphysical fusion. There is no such thing as a happenstance happy accident. As we are achieving escape velocity in our transition from the Age of Pisces into the Age of Aquarius, the many factors of confusion are dissipating, while the unifying factors of global fusion, where the individual is not simply a single dissociated molecule within the human experience, rather a creative interplay of communication and realization that we are all in this thing together...the process being inclusive rather than exclusive. I like to view this development (or revealing) of fusion energy as an effect we now witness externally because we are finally thinking more towards oneness on the global consciousness scale. It's a good sign.
The only thing that stands in the way of healing is belief in an identity other than one's True identity, the Son of God. Anything else is the result of a divided mind and thus not whole and not healed. Nothing changes on the outside until something changes on the inside. We have to stop looking at peoples forms and categorizing them by what we think we know from what we think we see. None of it is real anyway.
I heard this week that the whole planetary vibration becomes more positive around Christmas time. This is something we can work on to hep in the Ukraine crisis.

I share your enthusiasm albeit the technology to actually harness this new science is decades away--it will take, perhaps, 20 years to have our commercial and residential properties energized by the fusion but I am glad it will happen for future generations! Meanwhile, we must still fight for the thrivability of our planet since we cannot squander sentient beings wishes for survival. Yet, the news has been amazingly positive: for once in a very, very long while! Cheers for Earth!

I think you are projecting a duality here - division vs unity - where a specifically more nuanced approach is essential. We all need to learn something new. How to unite from bases of independent geographical and common-interest communities without giving up the independence of the groups that formed the union. Those in the world living today in artificially "united" communities are, as often as not, suffering at the hands of those who control those unions. Countries (China, Russia, N. Korea, many others) and even some of the worker unions of yore which became corrupt.
The future of humanity demands we invent and develop this grand federated, decentralized model of governance. Too many well-meaning and well informed people (rightly?) shy away from unbridled enthusiasm for big government, big business, or big united anything. Let the notion of "human scale" explicitly govern our efforts to build the "society of societies" of the future that we're all working so hard together trying to figure out.
If we could but perceive it, our entire lives are one continuous flow of synchronicity. However, often our own self-absorption limits our view. So when we do become aware of an event being synchronous, we become ‘amazed’.
Fusion, like many other inventions, was suppressed.
Its worth noting the leading US fusion scientists in 1976 were defunded.
I am sure in 2022 they have developed fusion engines (secretly, privately and for military purposes etc )but would not want the big multinational energy monopolies to loose control of the energy market.
We dont have a democracy, we never have .
All central banking nation's Presidents are appointed not elected and govts dont follow this idea "rule by the people".
And we cannot imagine the( corrupt) institutions or politics would save us as they cannot.
We should not even be lead by a false " authority" a govt that claims its God.
This mess, a world of insanity, more a case of love overcoming( shining a light on) fear than fusion.
Fusion is not needed on spirit as what has been never apart is already not separate.

Pros and Cons. Currently, most folks in this contemporary anti-culture exist in the state of Confusion. Those "Awakening Wonders", to quote Russell Brand, are the bearers of Profusion of awareness and an IN-fusion of cosmic consciousness.
In 1906, a very prescient seer as well as a keen observer, wrote a book titled "Cosmic Consciousness". His name was Richard Bucke. He remarked about the gradual development of what we might now term as a quantum leap beginning with the likes of Leonardo, during the time of the Italian Renaissance.
Over the centuries, Bucke posited several other individuals who arrived at those realizations. As the decades went by, the numbers of the Cosmically Conscious tended to grow gradually and with the 18th and 19th Centuries the progression expanded. It would appear to me that this progression, the theme of his book, has now expanded exponentially.
