AGING CONSCIOUSLY: CREATING A MIRACLE-MINDED CHAPTER THREE
A Virtual Seminar with 15% discount for paid subscribers
In A Course in Miracles, enlightenment is described as a shift in self-perception from body-identification to spirit-identification. While in the world of the three dimensions it’s common to consider the life of the body as the only real life, a spiritual worldview posits a life beyond the body. The world of spirit is a greater life, a changeless life, an eternal life.
As we view our material existence through a spiritual lens, we perceive things differently. The Course says, for instance, that physical birth is not the beginning but the continuation of our lives; and physical death is not the end but a continuation of our lives. The body itself is like a suit of clothes we wear and then remove when the learning of this lifetime is complete. The spirit, which is who we truly are, does not die.
The spirit therefore does not age, either. I remember my father in his later years once saying, “When you’re old you don’t feel old.” It wasn’t until the last few years of my life that I’ve revisited his words and really understand what he was saying.
If I am my body, then as I age I am over the hill. If I am spirit, then there is no hill. If I am my body, then my opportunities are limited. If I am spirit, there are no limits that circumscribe my existence. While in the material world there is diminishment and lack, in the spiritual world there is only increase and abundance. Which universe of thought I choose to inhabit, where I choose to ground myself psychologically and emotionally, is completely up to me.
Energy cannot be destroyed, it can only be transformed. The external energy with which I ran around as a child is energy now alchemized into the internal strengths of my later years. Who I really am is the same being now that I was when I was seven or eight years old. The true self is neither young nor old, for it does not belong to time.
These ideas - and most specifically how they apply to our daily, practical existence - will be part of the virtual seminar AGING CONSCIOUSLY that I’ll be hosting on Friday night, September 9th, and during the day on Saturday, September 10th. It will be an opportunity for all of us to rethink age, both its opportunities as well as its challenges. I will be joined as well by Dr. Libby Weaver, discussing ways to physically as well as spiritually re-energize as we make our way through Chapter Three.
Throughout my career, I’ve spoken and written about things that I’m passionate about at the time. I’ve always thought that if something truly interested me, then that would be my greatest way to be of interest to others. As an aging boomer myself, the issue of what to do with the time I have left on this planet has become of great interest to me. I know that others over fifty are considering the same kinds of issues and asking the same kinds of questions that I am. Nothing fosters a more meaningful reflection than a spiritual perspective and a group discussion. That’s what AGING CONSCIOUSLY will be.
If this if of interest to you, I hope you’ll be there.
